Antique French Louis Philippe Mirror c1890
This is a fantastic piece. The Louis Philippe style (popularized in the mid-19th century) is characterized by its "rounded shoulders" at the top and a clean, understated elegance that bridges the gap between the ornate Baroque period and the cleaner lines of the 20th century.
Because it is silver-gilded rather than the more common gold, it has a aesthetic that makes it particularly popular for contemporary homes.
Silver Gilded. Unlike standard silver paint, this involves the application of thin silver leaf over a "bole" (clay base), often showing hints of the red or grey undertones where the leaf has worn thin over time.
There is a light patina or of the silver, which gives the piece its antique quality. The glass plate also has some marks showing its age and authenticity.
